ISTE NETS-S

3. Research and information fluency: Select and use the appropriate tools and digital resources to accomplish a variety of tasks and to solve problems.

Instructional objective(s): Students will be able to understand the importance of bullying awareness and prevention.

ACTION
Before-Class preparation: Prior to the lesson, download the movie trailer for the new movie, Bully. Download/print the stories (or use them to create a PowerPoint Presentation). Create a K-W-L chart for students to fill in before and after the lesson. Choose a method to share that K-W-L with the students. If technology is unavailable for electronic completion, make copies. Create and prepare the instructions for the bullying skits.

Bullying Skit Directions
In a small group of your choice (no more than four students) discuss your experiences with bullying at our school.
  1. Choose an experience to share with the class.
  2. Create a skit (one minute or less), using that experience.
  3. Perform your skit for the class.
Create an assignment in Edmodo for students to upload their K-W-L charts and write a reflection about the lesson. Create directions for the reflection, which should say: Reflect on your experiences at Kelly Mill Middle School. Have you ever experienced or witnessed bullying? Did the skits change your perception of bullying at Kelly Mill? Do you think we (the students, teachers, and administrators) should do something about the bullying? What do you think you can do about bullying? Write a paragraph to share your experiences and thoughts on bullying.
